Do you lose stuff in your bedroom? Have you spent countless hours looking for that lost sock or that missing piece of Ms. Johnson's homework? If so, then you need ORGANIZATION! Science is all about organization. Your Mastery Assessment is to create an an infomercial with the purpose of selling the periodic table to a group of very unorganized scientists.
What should you know?
What is an element? An element is a substance that is made entirely from one type of atom.
What are elements made of? Atoms
How are elements different from each other? They are different because of the number of protons in the element.
How many different elements are there? There More than a hundred different type of elements.
In terms of chemistry--what is a property? A characteristic of a sample of matter that is fixed by its state. They have physical properties and those are things like luster. The other property is chemical and those are things like nitrogen.
How are elements on the periodic table grouped? Why?By the atomic number of protons. the perodic table is organism by metal,Nonmetal,And metaliods
What are the vertical columns an
d the horizontal rows called on the periodic table? What are their significance? The vertical and horizontal lines on the periodic table means families. The thing that is so significant about it is that the Vertical columns are very reactive and the horizontal row are calm and less reactive.
What are the features of the periodic table? (Left to right )The features on a periodic table are liquids, metals, and gasses,Columns. There are 18 vertical columns or groups. These are further sub-divided into A and B (groups I to VII), VIII group and zero group.
3. Member of the same group have similar electronic configuration of the valence shell and thus show same valency.
4. Elements of groups IA to VIIA are called groups of typical elements, representative elements or normal elements.
5. Groups IA and IIA are strongly metallic and are called group of 'alkali metals and alkaline earth metals'.
6. Groups IB to VII B and VIII lie in the middle of the table between IIA and IIIA groups and are called groups of transition elements. They consist of metals.
7. The Zero group consists of 'Noble gases'.
8. There are 7 horizontal rows in the periodic table. These are called the periods.
9. In a period, the number of valence shell remains the same for all elements. However, the number of electrons in the valence shell increases from left to right .
10. The number of elements present in each period is given in the following table.
9.How do you read the Periodic Table? You read the periodic table by looking at the information in the boxes which are organized by how many protons are located in the element.

Science Rocks, Inc. has hired you for a marketing assignment. You and your team have been tasked with creating an infomercial with the purpose of selling the periodic table to a group of unorganized scientists. They see nothing wrong with the way they keep their elements "organized" so you must point out every feature of the periodic table to prove to them they need this tool.
